There’s this girl in my younger years,
Long before I understood love and tears.
She’s our neighbor for a short eternity,
The girl next door literally.
Short black hair, White shirt she wore gracefully.
Thin lips, rosy cheeks, a definition of beauty.
But only one thing caught my eyes eternally.
T’was her eyes, that caught mine by the way she looked at me.
She looked outside their door,
Busy from doing a house chore.
I was on the other side of the fence,
Playing in the sand with my friends.
The sun was shining bright,
The afternoon gave a wonderful light,
Then there were her eyes,
Her beautiful light brown eyes.
I will never forget the way we looked at each other.
It was a look from an angel one would remember, forever.
Her light brown eyes shined like a gem in the dust,
It was like finding silver in the rust.
Belen, oh Belen. You were a shining star.
Years passed on and I went searching.
That the girl I knew is now teaching.
A decade long has changed everything;
Now, the past was just a memory of youth lingering.
She’s now with someone, I can’t blame fate.
But looking back, if I have stayed,
And didn’t leave for another state;
She would have been mine, my one soul mate.
